A pregnant woman and her son (3) who died in a vehicle accident near Kombat last Tuesday, have been identified by their relatives.
The police community affairs commander for the Otjozondjupa region, senior inspector Maureen Mbeha, on Monday said the deceased have been identified as Beno Hausiku (24), who was pregnant, and her son, Athanasius Ngoma.
A third occupant of the vehicle, Frans Museke (28) who sustained serious injuries in the crash, died in a Windhoek hospital on Thursday after being transferred there for specialised treatment.
The accident occurred around 01h10 on Tuesday some five kilometres south-west of the Kombat settlement.
The police officer said the driver had allegedly struck a rabbit and lost control of the seven-seater vehicle, which overturned and rolled several times.
The vehicle had eight occupants including the driver and it was travelling from Windhoek to Rundu at the time of the crash.
The driver and the surviving passengers were initially taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital for treatment and some were later transferred to hospitals in Windhoek and Tsumeb for further medical care.
Police investigations continue.
