TWELVE members of the City Police, under the watchful eye of Assistant Superintendent Siegfried Geiseb and Sergeant Johannes Eichab, took to the suburbs on Saturday and Sunday to talk to the communities about neighbourhood problems and how and where the Police can help.
First were Cimbebasia, Rocky Crest and Klein Windhoek, and on Sunday Ludwigsdorf and Kleine Kuppe followed. The officers walked through the suburbs talking to residents and recording problems like noise pollution, speeding cars and neglected animals.According to Geiseb this was a necessary exercise because it helped the City Police know what the problems were so they could take action.A visible Police presence in the suburbs might also deter crime and make the public aware that the City Police are there to help.Geiseb said it was good for the Police to establish relations with residents because they knew what was happening in their neighbourhoods and were the best source of information for the Police. For example, the City Police learned about recurring robberies at an automated teller machine (ATM) in Cimbebasia, where an officer will now be posted to keep an eye on the situation.
