The recall of gastric antacid and urinary alkaliniser Citro-Soda in South Africa has prompted the Ministry of Health and Social Services to monitor the situation closely in Namibia.
South Africa (SA) recently recalled specified batches of Citro-Soda amid safety concerns.
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra) has indicated that certain Citro-Soda products are being removed from shelves.
Health ministry spokesperson Walters Kamaya on Monday confirmed that the ministry is aware of the recall.
“The situation is under review, and the public will be informed accordingly should any risks be identified locally. We will be working with the Namibia Medicines Regulatory Council to determine if any of the implicated batches have entered the Namibian market,’’ he said.
Citro-Soda is widely used for the relief of heartburn and urinary discomfort, making the recall particularly concerning for regular users.
The ministry has urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, advising consumers to pay attention to official updates and to consult healthcare professionals if they experience any unusual symptoms after using the product.
It further indicated that healthcare facilities would be alerted should there be any confirmed risk.
