EESHOKE Chula Chula climbed to the top of the Namibia Premier Football League after back-to-back wins over the weekend.

They defeated Tigers 4-2 in Windhoek and followed it up with a 1-0 victory over Young Africans in Gobabis.

The wins moved Chula Chula to first place on the log with 37 points, overtaking defending champions African Stars, who now sit second with 35 points after collecting just three points from their matches in Rundu.

African Stars beat Julinho 4-2 but lost 1-0 to Rundu Chiefs on Sunday.

Speaking to The Namibian, Chula Chula head coach John Sikerete said being back on top of the log is “a mix of happiness and pressure, because it’s a challenge to be on top.”

He credited the team’s success to strong teamwork despite missing key players due to injuries.

“That motivated the boys very much after I told them they can do it even without those two experienced guys,” he said.

Sikerete praised his squad’s determination, noting that most players are local, with only three foreign players.

“This team was just recently assembled. Aingwafa David is the only player from my previous squad. The rest are new, young players from different regions of Namibia, and they are willing to learn and fight for the club,” he explained.

He also highlighted the supporters’ role, saying, “Our supporters are everywhere, and they are always there for the team. Chula Chula are playing with 12 men on the pitch.”
Rundu Chiefs’ 1-0 win over African Stars lifted them out of the relegation zone, moving them to 13th place with 17 points. Head coach Marcelius Wakudumo described the victory as “massive,” adding that the players’ belief and motivation were key. “I gave them a technical plan, and they executed it. Motivation was a big factor,” he said.

Wakudhumo also praised his new signings, including former international Wangu Gome, for bringing leadership, stability, and quality to the squad. “With Wangu, you don’t only have experience, but also leadership, which helps push the boys forward,” he said, urging supporters to rally behind the team.
FC Ongos also produced a notable comeback on the weekend, overturning a 2-0 deficit to defeat Eleven Arrows 4-2. FC Ongos Coach Ronnie Kanalelo attributed the win to both tactical adjustments and mental resilience. “After conceding, I knew when they went into a mid-block, that’s exactly what I wanted. In the second half, I told my players this is not a game we are going to lose,” he said. Kanalelo also stressed the importance of training and preparation, saying the team’s high-intensity sessions and tactical focus helped them capitalize on opportunities and maintain composure under pressure.
