The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Shanghai committee has donated 1 000 pairs of running shoes to the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), describing the gesture as a symbol of the growing friendship between Namibia and China.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Windhoek on Tuesday, Chinese ambassador Zhao Weiping said the donation comes shortly after president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s state visit to China, during which both countries agreed to elevate bilateral relations and deepen cooperation in key sectors, including youth empowerment.
“The donation marks a new chapter in sport cooperation between the two countries and expresses hope for increased exchanges between Namibian and Chinese athletes and sport institutions,” Zhao said.
He thanked the visiting Shanghai delegation, led by CPPCC vice chairperson Xiao Guiyu, and NNOC vice president Gaby Ahrens for making the initiative possible, saying the partnership sets a positive example for future China-Namibia sport collaboration.
“This gift helps the young people of Namibia achieve outstanding results on the sports field and reach new heights on life’s journey,” said Xiao.
With sport and cultural ties, Xiao believes this cooperation cements the two countries’ bond to achieve further practical cooperation and bring benefits to both countries.
