Changing Your Lifestyle with Apps

The world is a tough place to live in. Picture this: You’re the working class type who’s dedicated to the job. But because of the stress that entails, you often don’t eat or sleep enough, and it’s even worse when you don’t have enough time for yourself.

Next thing you know, health issues skyrocket and the doctor tells you that you have to start exercising more and changing your diet, else you’re meeting your maker earlier. But this is where lifestyle apps come in handy. In a digital age where more people have access to mobile devices than ever before, there are some useful (and free) apps for both Androids and iOS users to help make your journey in life smoother than ever.

Got a Samsung? You may have heard of Samsung Health – a free app that records your activities – from running to walking and notes your goals for your body. Depending on the movements of the phone and such, it’ll record what time you go to bed, what time you get up as well as the number of steps you take and kilometres you’ve walked in a day – usually providing an average at the end of each month so that you can see how well (or how bad) you’ve done.

Measure your heart rate if you want to and set up a meeting with doctors online or engage in challenges. The disadvantage? According to a user online: “It lacks motivation”.

The same can be said for the Health app on iPhones which more or less works the same way. Are you connected with the Namibia Health Plan and eager to keep up with what’s happening with your medical aid fund? Download their app on Google Play and the App Store. Also opt for food apps, especially those with awesome (healthy) recipes.

Not in the mood to go to the gym? There are plenty of apps available which can give you tips on which exercises to do in the comfort of your home. Featuring tutorials as well as challenges to make your life 10 times easier, you can keep track of what you need to do, what you’ve done so far and track your progress as you go.

The most famous one at the moment is the Nike+ app.

According to the app, you not only track your runs, but improve on them every time. And you can expect the best tips from people in the industry globally.

All you have to do is sign up and get running. Although hardly any cool Nike events take place in Namibia, it’s still worth it to feel part of a global community and reach your fitness goals.

Got an Apple Watch? Make sure you use the Runtastic app – which, according to Macworld is said to “display speed, distance, duration, pace and how many calories you’ve burned on your wrist, where it’s convenient to check without having to slow down and get your phone out of your pocket”.

If you’re all about your money, make sure you get your bank’s app. You can make certain payments directly from your phone, all you have to do is make sure that it is activated at the bank itself. They’re available on both Androids and iOS, so get downloading.

And if you’re one of those people who can’t figure out what they have to do and when, get a helpful task app that can remind you to do things – with better visuals and more options, much like the Note app you already have on your phone.

Remember to also keep educational apps, photo apps (if you love to make an impression on social media) and business apps.
