Celtic win Supa 8 Cup

DEFENDING SAA Supa 8 champions SuperSport United were forced to part ways with the trophy after they went down 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2005 Cup final, played at the Olen Park stadium on Saturday.

Having beaten both Soweto giants – Chiefs and Pirates – en route to the final, it was a result which few people could say the Phunya Sele Sele did not deserve. It was the result many neutral supporters had hoped for and it was a fairytale come true for a side which enjoys amongst the best support in the country, but has failed in recent years to convert this into success on the field. It certainly proved to be a worthwhile trip for the multitudes of ‘Masokalara’ – the Celtic fans, who had made the long trek up from Bloemfontein to Potchefstroom as they were to witness the first Cup success that the team has enjoyed in two decades. The first half turned out to be a tactical battle as both sides seemed to be feeling each other out while ensuring that they kept things tight at the back. This meant that there was not an abundance of goal-scoring opportunities, however, the action on the field remained absorbing and entertaining to the packed Olen Park Stadium. The game was mainly confined to the middle of the park.-psl websiteIt was the result many neutral supporters had hoped for and it was a fairytale come true for a side which enjoys amongst the best support in the country, but has failed in recent years to convert this into success on the field. The game was mainly confined to the middle of the park.-psl website
