The Oxford dictionary defines beauty as a combination of qualities that give pleasure to the sight or other senses or to the mind – such our country, Namibia.
Located at the south-western part of Africa, the Republic of Namibia is home to over two million sons and daughters. We have about a million reasons to celebrate her independence and another million to be proud of her.
She is well known for the highest dunes in the world. Her beauty is evident from the largest concentration of rock engravings in Africa, found at Tweyfelfontein, to the Skeleton Coast – home to high sand dunes which can also be found at Sossusvlei.
She has one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Swakopmund has a lot more to offer than just the endless pool of blue water. Close to the town, there are dunes that provide for several activities such as sandboarding, horse-riding and quad biking. She can fullfil anyone’s wishes, from backpackers to newlyweds. Allow her to spoil you with meals prepared by qualified chefs and engage in romantic cruises.
This may sound clichéd on so many levels but there’s a reason why walks along the beach are a honeymoon staple. There is absolutely nothing more romantic than sand between your toes and your significant other by your side.
Gaze upon the endless sea of stars at night and sleep in the wilderness, listening to nature as you close your eyes and drift off to sleep. Allow her to spoil you with her bright morning sun shining through the curtains in your hotel room. Yep, she has all the right things and in the right places too.
Indeed, we are blessed to be sons and daughters of this magnificent woman, her beauty shines from the moment the sun rises to the moment the sun sets. She is beautiful in her own ways, be it the golden dunes or the great Welwitchia plant or perhaps it’s the people that give her the strength and courage to shine so beautifully. Either way, she is a masterpiece and she deserves to be celebrated in style and class. Happy birthday Motherland.
