Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey continue their winning streak at SAG Awards

THE finest performances in TV and film were honoured at the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday, and things kicked off and ended with a bang.

Cate Blanchett continued her winning streak with the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for ‘Blue Jasmine’ and Matthew McConaughey also made it a hat-trick as he won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in ‘Dallas Buyers Club’.

Cate may have won a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award already for the role, but the actress was still thrilled at her SAG.

The 44-year-old got emotional as she told the audience that she has been with her husband as well as the same agent and the same publicist for 17 years now.

“In a way those relationships are my biggest achievement,” Cate said, choking back tears.

Matthew was also delighted to win and said: “Oh this feels good, thank you, thank you. To the nominees, not just in this category, there were so many fierce characters. It just shines some light on this bull ride.”

The actor talked about the ‘magic’ of finding an amazing character, like he did with Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club, which has won him a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award as well.

The Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role gong was the first award of the evening, and went to Lupita Nyong’o for ‘12 Years A Slave’.

The stunning actress jumped for joy as the crowd whooped and stood up to applaud her before she took the stage and collected her award from Matt Damon.

“Being recognised by fellow actors is an honour of the highest order and I want to thank all of you so much,’ Lupita said before thanking her director. “Thank you, thank you, thank you Steve McQueen. Thank you for taking a flashlight and shining it under the floorboard of this nation and reminding us what we stand on. You are love personified.”
