Cabinet greenlights visa-on-arrival for 35 new countries

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has announced changes to Namibia’s entry requirements, confirming Cabinet approval for a significant expansion of countries eligible for visa-on-arrival (VOA).

In a move designed to boost tourism, enhance bilateral relations and streamline entry procedures, an additional 35 countries have been approved to obtain visas upon arrival at designated ports of entry in Namibia.

The ministry describes these changes as a “clear reflection of Namibia’s commitment to openness, diplomatic goodwill and international cooperation”.

However, the new policy also introduces a N$400 administration fee.

Ministry executive director Nghidinua Daniel says the mandatory charge applies to all visitors who choose to apply and submit their VOA manually at the port of entry, though travellers are encouraged to use existing pre-arrival visa services to avoid delays and streamline entry.

The changes further include a special provision for Haiti, whereby diplomatic passport holders receive full visa exemption, and ordinary passport holders, while still VOA eligible, are exempted from all visa fees upon arrival in Namibia based on the principle of reciprocity.

“These progressive changes are a clear reflection of Namibia’s commitment to openness,
diplomatic goodwill and international cooperation,” Daniel says.
