IT’S a one-man drama and some ruminations on love in Morne Botha and Othilia Mungoba’s double bill premiering at the Bank Windhoek Theatre School this Thursday.
With Botha directing and starring in his self-penned ‘The Final Curtain’ and Mungoba the pen behind ‘Blurred Lines’, an ensemble drama directed by David Ndjavera, the bill presents two times the theatre for the price of one.
Promising a poignant play grappling with issues of substance and alcohol abuse as amidst man’s other pollutions, ‘The Final Curtain’ is both a teaching moment and a challenge for Botha.
“The most challenging thing about a one-man play is whether you can keep the audience intrigued,” says Botha who describes his play as fictional and concerned with the ever-turning wheels of one’s past focused through a man named Sam.
“If you want to see real true to life emotions on stage with tears of regret or the disturbed twisted emotions of the psychotic then this is the show to see. You will feel me.”
Also peddling relatability, Mungoba returns to the theatre after a considerable hiatus in which she has served as a television producer and creative director for the national broadcaster.
Mining the talents of theatre stalwart, collaborator and mentor David Ndjavera who also happened to teach her drama in high school, the playwright describes her play as applicable and relatable.
“’Blurred Lines’ is collection of conversations and experiences in relation to the definition of self and who we are through our experiences with others in relation to love or rather what we define it to be,” she says. “It’s a thought provoking and witted insight into matters of the heart.”
Starring Denzel ‘NSK’ //Naobeb, Helouis Goraseb, Jacobs Shivute, Melissa Muller and Taylo Mannetti, ‘Blurred Lines’ features short movie extracts and poetic interludes that are not to be missed.
