Black Africa’s title hopes fade

Black Africa’s title hopes suffered a big blow on Saturday when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Unam.

BA hardly looked like title contenders and had it not been for a second half penalty they could well have lost the match.

BA took the lead after only three minutes when Vitapi Nguruka headed in from a corner, but Unam equalised eight minutes later when Sebastiao Massocollo dispossessed Nguruka and scored from close range.

BA suffered a setback on 21 minutes when Willy Stephanus left the field with a hamstring injury, and Unam took the lead for the first time six minutes later when Roberto Rugam scored from a freekick.

BA launched numerous attacks but poor decision making cost them as Bryan Bantam and Marco van Wyk both wasted clear chances.

BA were quite lucky to equalise when Unam defender Nathan Gideon accidentally handled the ball in the box on 71 minutes and Emilio Martin scored from the spot.

BA didn’t have any more noteworthy opportunities and held on for the draw which now sees them trailing log leaders Tigers by 10 points.

Citizens’ survival hopes meanwhile suffered a big blow when they lost 4-2 to Rundu Chiefs in the late match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

All the goals came in a frantic first half during which the Rundu visitors stamped their authority on the game.

Mathias Nambasa opened the scoring after only 5m when he stabbed home a loose ball, but Nico Narib soon equalised for Citizens when he headed in a cross.

Two goals in three minutes however put Rundu Chiefs in charge. A great solo goal by Mangundu Katueasa made it 2-1 on 15 minutes with a great solo goal, while Milky Namweya made it 3-1 three minutes later.

Osvaldo Vries pulled a goal back for Citizens on 23 minutes but Alfeus Ngwezi made it 4-2 nine minutes later.

The defeat sees Citizens remaining in the relegation zone on 17 points along with Julinho and Flamingoes, who drew 1-1 against Tura Magic.

Rundu Chiefs meanwhile move up to ninth position on 26 points.

Mighty Gunners climbed to sixth on the log on 29 points after beating Young Chiefs 6-1 in Otjiwarongo.

Asser Hara-amseb scored a hattrick for Gunners while Nakambare Uaondjaruro scored two and Moses Indji one goal for the Gunners.
