HID Global, a worldwide leader in secure identity solutions, says the availability of their state-of-the-art Lumidigm biometric fingerprint authentication solutions will benefit the government, general public and the private business sector in Namibia.
In response to questions by , the firm said its Lumidigm solutions have a number of benefits, of which the most important is confirming a user identity by validating “who” is transacting.
“Fingerprint biometric solutions greatly reduce fraudulent activities by criminals who thrive on identity theft," says Greg Sarrail, Vice President, Solutions Business Development, Biometrics at HID Global. Sarrail continued, "Lumidigm biometric sensors were developed with advanced technological features to significantly reduce the risk of anyone replicating or reproducing another person’s identity.”
The Lumidigm fingerprint sensors are unique in the industry in that they use patented multispectral imaging, a technology that utilizes multiple sources and types of light along with advanced polarization techniques to capture relevant fingerprint information from the surface and subsurface of the finger. In addition, the firm offers the industry’s best fingerprint liveness detection capability which requires a live finger to be present to authenticate, thus preventing a fraudster from using a fake finger or replaying stolen biometric data.
Asked about the costs of its products, Sarrail said total cost of ownership is very competitive because of technology biometric performance advantages and product reliability.
Lumidigm sensors have been field-proven in several applications around the world. In banking, HID Global provides biometric authentication for over two billion ATM and teller desk transactions per year around the world. By using biometrics, banks can confirm that the person requesting to complete a transaction is actually the same person registered to a specific account, not a fraudster who has stolen a bank card or PIN code. Biometrics are also useful when authenticating bank employees such as tellers, to ensure they conduct approved banking operations for customers and for other bank services they might provide.
Hospitals and other healthcare organizations have many uses for biometrics, including validating patients’ access to medical care, authenticating healthcare providers prescribing and administering medications to the correct patients, as well as helping protect access to confidential medical records.
Governments widely use biometric technology for a variety of citizen ID use cases such as offering medical care, pension payments, reducing voter fraud, and for other citizen benefits.
Commercial organizations also have many uses for biometrics, from who can enter a building or restricted areas within a building, to ensuring accurate employee attendance, as well as a growing number of network and logical access applications.
As you can see, biometrics has many use cases where knowing “who” really matters for the integrity of many activities.
The HID Global Lumidigm biometric authentication solutions are solely distributed by Bytes IDM Namibia.
