Big Brother Africa 4: ‘Being Evicted Did Not Come As A Surprise’

YET another one bites the dust. A seemingly surprised, emotional Geraldine left the BBA house on Sunday night. Remember her? While in the house, she was the reserved girl who never had much to say.

At least not until Zimbabwe’s Itai rubbed her up the wrong way in which things would end on an argumentative note. Anyways, when The Namibian spoke to Geraldine yesterday, she was in high spirits, saying that a glimpse of the outside world has completely changed the sober mood she was in on Sunday when she was evicted. Read on:You were very emotional on stage last night. Did being evicted come as a huge shock to you?It wasn’t a huge shock, I just felt bad to have come so close to the finals and then leave. I wanted to at least stay until the end and win the money. How are you feeling today? Do you wish you were still in the house or are you glad to be back in the real world?Well, now that I am out of the house and inhaling fresh air and seeing moving cars, it is unbelievable, it is just so nice. It is nice to be out of the house.Have you learned anything that’s surprised you since leaving the house? Not really, I actually expected Itai to put me up. I knew he was going to put me up, I just knew it.You were very quiet at first and you managed to dodge nominations. Was that your strategy or are you naturally a shy, quiet, introverted person?I am reserved. Not so quiet, but reserved. At first I didn’t know the housemates that well but as the days went by, we got to know each other and I started opening up. Naturally I am not such a loud person. The person that you saw on television is exactly who I am.Despite your seemingly quiet demeanour, we sometimes saw a different side of you – you came across as really loving dancing, and on the karaoke night you were in your element performing. Is there a side of you that we haven’t seen? You saw all sides of me. Sometimes I can be reserved and calm and sometimes bubbly and a bit loud, and that is what you saw. You saw the quiet me, the happy me, the sobbing and angry Geraldine. What were your reasons for entering BBA: The Revolution?I entered for the experience. I wanted to be a part of the experience and I can say I have learned so much being in the house. You said you entered to learn to be independent from your twin sister. Do you think you have managed this?Yes, I have managed it actually. I have learned to be independent because back home my sister and I used to do a lot together, and I know that being in the house for so long without here, I am much more independent. I have grown so much. Why do you think you and Itai didn’t get along well? Why did the two of you sometimes clash?I don’t know, at first we were really close, and all of a sudden we were just not close anymore. I don’t know what went wrong, but I guess that is how people are, sometimes you get along and sometimes you don’t. I really don’t know what happened. You said Leonel was like a baby last night while being interviewed by Ike. Can you explain that statement more?(Laughs) Well, it’s just like I told Ike, Leonel is like a baby, he laughs like a baby and it’s just cute. I like him as a friend and nothing more. I told him from the beginning that we will just be friends. The fact that he said he liked me wasn’t going to make me date him just because I feel sorry for him.You broke down while speaking about Kaone and continuing on with your guitar lessons, saying Kaone really inspired you. Do you think perhaps you started developing feelings for him? If you were single, would you give him a chance? No, he is just a very good friend and hopefully we will continue to be friends now that we are out of the house. And like I said, he inspires me, and I drew that inspiration from the time when he was teaching me how to play guitar, he really pushed me. I only see him as a friend and even if I was single, I would not give him a chance. You seemed to get along really well with Ruby. Do you like animals in general? Do you have any pets at home?Yes, I love puppies, they are cute and fluffy. I especially like those short long ones that don’t grow, they are the cutest. I have one such cute dog at home and his name is Chelsea.Who did you like the most between K1 and Leonel?I liked them both in their own special ways. Kaone inspires me and we have a whole lot of things in common. They are both my good friends.Eddie seems very fond of you and was upset that you left, he even shed a tear or two. In fact, he said more than once that he wanted to see you in the finals. After you did that garden task, he commented that you were really fun. Were you two always close, or was it something that developed more recently? Well, we got quite close this last week. He is really cool and a good friend, he made me laugh a lot. We had that twin bond thing going on seeing that we are both twins. You acted out your role as a stripper well … Is there a little bit of the stripper in you?(Laughs) It was pure acting, I was in character as Scarlet. That character is the complete opposite of who I am, but it was fun as I had to do it the whole week. You often seemed bored (apart from when you were doing activities and tasks). Were you really into Big Brother?Yes I was. I enjoyed the experience very much. Yes, maybe I wasn’t loud or crazy most of the time but I really enjoyed the experience. What are your plans now?Whatever positive thing comes my way I am going to grab it with open arms. I am going to continue with my studies because I want to finish law school, then I want to finish writing my book (a fiction novel) which I had started writing before I came into the house and do much, much more. I want to be successful.
