I’VE NOTICED for a while now that the housemates don’t seem to take Big Brother seriously.
He’ll call them to the diary room and they’d just go on doing what they were doing at the most leisurely of paces, unconcerned that they might be breaking the rules or that they might get into trouble. He’ll order them to the garden for their morning exercises and some simply continue snoozing. He sets them tasks and some just decide to sit them out.Well, just like a nagging wife, it seems that Biggie finally got well and truly fed up of begging and pleading the housemates to do what they were meant to be doing the whole time.First thing Monday morning, he decided to put his foot down, once and for all.According to Biggie, all housemates, at some time or another, have been guilty of either whispering, or putting batteries in the clocks and not in their mikes or disobeying Big Brother’s requests.Chief among the culprits are Lucille, Mimi, Munya, Ricco, Takondwa and Sheila, who were singled out by Biggie.Their punishment – losing their entire alcohol allowance for the week or until they show a serious change of attitude.I don’t know if that will happen. In addition to the usual rebelliousness and contempt for authority shown by most young people, they simply seem to be clueless about the amount of power Biggie has. It’s never happened before but I certainly would not put it past the producers of the show to have someone removed from the game for continuous rule infringements.LAZY LOAFERS Apart from their disregard for Biggie, I also feel quite sorry for this week’s Head of House, Lucille. As a generally soft-spoken young lady, the guys in the house are showing her no mercy. They don’t listen to her, they don’t do what she says, generally – they are behaving like a bunch of lazy loafers.Even she had to lay down the law yesterday morning after their usual morning workout. She appealed to the housemates to pull up their socks but it looks to me like it all fell on deaf ears, as the housemates sat in a daze.Perhaps this week’s Apocalypto-like task was created to match their dark moods. On Tuesday morning, the housemates awoke to a virtual rubbish dump in their garden. With no space to exercise, the still sleepy and confused-looking housemates were at a loss until Lucille informed them that they had to clean up the mess as part of their punishment for disregarding Biggie.Later the same day they received their task. The week’s theme is The Future, and as Big Brother paints it, it’s not very bright. It is the year 2055, and the junk in the garden is all that remains after the global energy crisis, global warming and collapse of infrastructure have taken their toll. The Housemates must use these meagre supplies to throw a Gala of the Future on Thursday, starting by constructing a table and 10 chairs. To conserve energy, they must cook only with gas or open fire. The storeroom, however, has slipped through a wormhole and exists in “the past”.It can only be accessed by time travel, using a “time travel suit” that Big Brother will supply. One housemate will don the suit and transfer their supplies to the fridge they will find there. After reading out this weeks task another argument about how much to wager ensues.Uti feels that the housemates would be mad to wager 100% considering their current status in Biggie’s bad books.Quite agree with him there but in the end, it was a case of majority rule. They wagered 100%.In addition they have to patrol the garden in pairs throughout the night to protect their provisions from ‘hungry and desperate creatures’! Meanwhile in the real rubbish dump, Latoya and Tawana seem to be gossiping up a storm. They too had a little mini-task, also to construct some furniture out of the rubbish in the garden.Who will make it back into the BBA house? On the one hand, Tawana is guaranteed to create some beef with her short temper and slightly strange behaviour but on the other Latoya could cause a stir among the established and newly formed relationships in the house. At the end of the day, I guess its up to Africa to decide.Don’t forget to cast your vote.Vote for the housemate you would like to see permanently evicted from the Big Brother house.* Keep checking out all the action on DStv channel 198, the daily shows on Channel 102 at 20h00 and e-mail your thoughts, views and opinions to bba@namibian.com.naHe’ll order them to the garden for their morning exercises and some simply continue snoozing. He sets them tasks and some just decide to sit them out.Well, just like a nagging wife, it seems that Biggie finally got well and truly fed up of begging and pleading the housemates to do what they were meant to be doing the whole time.First thing Monday morning, he decided to put his foot down, once and for all.
