WANDERERS’ upcoming young wing Elmarco Beukes was the big winner at Wanderers’ annual prize giving awards on Saturday evening as he won the Sportsman of the Year as well as the Upcoming Player of the Year awards.
Beukes started the year off as a member of Wanderers’ second team, but he worked his way into the first team and also ended up as their goal kicker.
He helped the second team win the Reserve League title, while he was also selected for Namibia u20 and the national Sevens teams.
At the same occasion Vince Dreyer was reappointed as Wanderers’ head coach for the third successive year, while national flanker Rohan Kitshoff was appointed as the forwards coach.
Kitshoff congratulated the second team on their success, and added that the first team had some ‘unfinished business’ after they fell out in the semifinals of the Premier League.
“Next year Wanderers will turn 100 years old which is a great achievement for the club, so let’s try and make it a special year for Wanderers,” he said.
The rest of the prize winners were as follows:
Best backline player: Bredell Wessels.
Best forward: Stefan Hattingh.
