Not many creatives can say they are willing to bend or break a few rules when it comes to their art and personal brand the way DJ Castro can.
He has always veered towards the experimental side of life.
This time around, you can catch the disc jockey sporting gender-bending accessories as part of his wardrobe, a look that is fast becoming synonymous with his quirky sense of style.
Peruse his Instagram these days and you’ll see DJ Castro posing with what appears to be a woman’s handbag around his body, something that he says seems so unorthodox to people, but is a powerful tool in dismantling the limitations of gendered clothing.
He was of course called out for this on social media, despite clothing and accessories being notorious for constantly evolving and moving back and forth across the feminine-masculine scale over time and across cultures.
The look appears to be too feminine for some, to which he retorted that not everyone would understand the goals he has in building his name in international fashion.
“Some of us are dying to have brands like Nike, Gucci or Palladium work with us. Namibia has a lot of potential in music and fashion because they align,” he said in response to the pushback.
When we spoke to him about his love of experimenting with his looks, DJ Castro said being stylish comes naturally to him.
“I have always been a fashionista ever since day one,” he said.
The musician described his sense of fashion as “alluring and sexy”, with the emphasis on being clean, creative and simple.
The artist said he spends a lot of time researching what is trending around the world, before mixing it in with his own personal style and outlook.
With no one to assist him in putting looks together, DJ Castro said dressing and making himself can be a huge confidence boost in a world constantly trying to bring others down.
Currently he said he gravitates towards oversized outerwear, floral prints, Bermuda shorts and “dope” sneakers.
The ultimate style hack? Well, according to him, it is to not let others discourage you from looking the way you want.
“Other people may not be suited to some of the style choices I make, and that’s okay.”
It seems that no matter the occasion or the theme, DJ Castro stays ready and is always teetering just on the edge of insanity.
His look does a good job of complementing the rest of his brand, adding to his portfolio as a natural entertainer.
The influencer has his sights set on the modelling industry in the future.
