unWrap.onlineThe star behind many of Tate Buti’s hit songs’ choruses has changed her Instagram handle from ‘Newturn Nambele’ to ‘Bella’.
She says she wants to shed her image of music maker and instead work on her career as a singer.
Bella says she has made a rather unpopular decision, and knows some followers are not happy with her name change.
“I changed my name because I felt like that was my stage name, and since I don’t really do music like I used to, I decided to go back to my real name. Also, I think my love for music is slowly dying, although I didn’t want to accept it at first, I think its actually time that I do. I started singing when I was just a young girl, and, unfortunately, my talent was not appreciated then.
“I have songs I did with big artists, which were not released. They actually just died, and most of these songs are songs I was really looking forward to hearing on the stereo. Also, I felt like back then I didn’t really market myself and presented my talent to the country and to the world at large.
“I was thinking of coming back strong this time, because one of the biggest productions in Namibia is willing to sign me, and this was really good news for me,” she says.
Bella did her first song with Tate Buti, titled ‘Happy Day’, when she was 18.
She says it is a myth that age is an important factor for musicians and that you cannot be successful past a certain age.
“I can’t really say I’m done with music, but I would probably not give it the same attention and energy as I would back then. I love singing, and I would lie if I said I will stop forever. I thought I was going to give it a try, but unfortunately Covid happened, so for now, I don’t really have anything in the pipeline,” she says.
Bella has worked with artists such as Young T on ‘Hossiana’ and Waka on ‘Yuuyuni’.
The singer has done massive covers on songs by international artists, such as Burna Boy’s ‘Ye’ and ‘Lion of Judah’ by Lebo Sekgobela.
