OKAHANDJA Beauties extended their lead at the top of the NFA Women Super League (WSL) with a 23-0 annihilation of bottom-of-the-log Challengers FC on Saturday.
Beauties came into the match level on 31 points with the JS Academy who will only resume playing next weekend, and have now extended their lead to 34 points with a 23-0 win over a hapless Challengers side.Beauties made easy work of their opponents despite missing players such as Thomalina Adams, Susanna Eises, Juliana Skrywer and Shirley Cloete, who went AWOL.However Kleintjie Fredericks and Stacey Naris were in great form to steer their team to a comprehensive victory, with Fredericks scoring an incredible 11 goals to go top of the Top Goal Scorers chart with a record number of 35 goals. Fredericks’ team mate Juliana Skrywer is second with 28 goals while Zenatha Coleman of JS Academy is third with 19 goals. Poly Babes remained third on the log after a hard fought 3-2 win over Unam Bokkies on Saturday and a 5-1 victory against 21 BD United on Sunday. They are now tied on 31 points with JS Academy, who have two matches in hand. With Okahandja Beauties leading the log for the second consecutive weekend, the league is poised for some great clashes ahead including the Poly Babes vs. JS Academy and Okahandja Beauties vs. JS Academy matches.Both Poly Babes and Unam Bokkies have players called up for the Brave Gladiators international match against the German Student national team that arrived in Namibia yesterday. GLADIATORS V GERMAN STUDENTSThe Gladiators will meet the German Students tomorrow at the SKW Field at 18h00, while their second match is scheduled for Saturday in Swakopmund at the SFC Sports field, starting at 16:00.The Namibian team will include a number of youngsters who returned yesterday from a two week camp in Kaiserau-Germany.The NFA WSL is financially supported by FIFA for the 2011-2012 Season and Jackey Gertze of NFA Women Desk said: ‘FIFA funding of N$100 000 has been allocated by the World Football Federation to administer the league which caters for an opportunity for its senior and talented players to play on a regular basis to boost the performance of the different national teams in the NFA.’FIFA is also supporting the NFA to dress the league teams and all women national teams with proper soccer boots specially made for women footballers by Adidas. All WSL players who are currently in camp for the Brave Gladiators match against the German Student national team will receive their own pair of female footballer Adidas Predators boots. ‘The NFA and its Women’s Desk and players will be forever grateful to FIFA for this support,’ said a delighted Gertze.
