The Bank Windhoek Nasfed Short Course National Championships 2026 came to a spectacular close in Swakopmund after five days of exciting and highly competitive swimming, with outstanding performances, personal bests and multiple new national records highlighting a hugely successful championship.
The championships attracted 264 swimmers, 2 479 event entries and 12 clubs, including five international clubs, showcasing the growing strength and reach of competitive swimming in Namibia.
Records and outstanding performances
The championship produced numerous record-breaking performances.
Among the standout performances were Jessica Humphrey, who set new national marks across a number of events, including the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m and 100m butterfly, 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and individual medley events.
Her 50m backstroke time of 27.36 was the highest-scoring individual swim in the Fina points results, earning 784 points.
Luke Beukes also delivered exceptional performances, setting new national marks in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly. His 48.74 in the 100m freestyle earned 778 Fina points.
More than medals
While records and medals are an important part of any national championship, Nasfed says the real success of the event was seeing the growth of swimmers across all levels.
For many athletes, success came in the form of a personal best, improved technique, greater confidence or simply having the opportunity to race against some of Namibia’s best swimmers.
The Senior Victor and Victrix Ludorum titles were awarded to Luke Beukes and Jessica Humphrey, respectively, while the junior titles went to Patrick Durand and Roze van Wyk.
