BLACK Africa and Eleven Arrows are expected to spice up the weekend when they clash in the final of the FNB Football Festival at the Khomasdal Stadium on Saturday.
The two teams made their way to the final of the tournament at the end of last year in which they also competed against Tigers, Oshakati City and African Stars.
The event was the first for the teams under the bank’s sponsorship wing and was meant to keep the players fit for the holiday season.
Arrows booked themselves a seat in the final when they demolished City 3-1, while Black Africa beat Tigers in the other semi-final to reach the final.
Black Africa played two matches to reach the final stages, after they also dismissed African Stars 1-0 a day before meeting Tigers.
Yesterday, FNB’s corporate communications manager, Cassius Moetie, confirmed that he was happy and impressed by the attendance of football lovers at the event late last year.
He called on all football lovers to attend this weekend’s matches as there will also be invitational teams taking to the field ahead of the main matches.
He said the FNB Invitational Team will take on the National Media Team in ‘a match of the year’ prior to the third and fourth places of the competition, which will lead to the final between Arrows and BA.
Kick-off for the encounter between the journalists and the bank’s invitational side will be at 14h00, followed by the third and fourth place playoff at 16h00, while the main match will be played at 18h00.
The event has replaced the traditional FNB Cup, which was held as a season-opener, after the break-up of the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC).
The NFC consisted of FNB, MTC and Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) and was solely responsible for funding football, but after it was dissolved, each party decided to invest in the game on its own.
