BA aims to top log

BA aims to top log

BLACK Africa have a chance to surpass Blue Waters at the top of the Namibia premiership at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight. Kick-off is at 20h00.

BA are in second spot on seven points, but the coastal outfit is still riding high on nine points after their 100 per cent record in the league so far. Blue Waters have won all three their encounters to date, while BA have one draw and two wins. This time, BA will be required to turn on the heat against Hotspurs to overtake ‘The Birds’ and from there maintain their position in what is foreseen as a competitive season ahead.BA, led by their Turkish coach, Ali Akan, have a credible side that can easily cause mayhem to Hotspurs who are currently languishing in the bottom half of the league.Hotspurs are coached by Willem Kapukare and they have so far drawn one match with two losses. The side, which lost their key predator Edward Asino to Eleven Arrows this season, have to look at other younger players for goals, but this time they have to dig deeper as the BA defence will be steadfast as usual.Black Africa have only conceded two goals to date and their chief goal stopper, Arnold Subeb, will aim at maintaining a credible record to be considered for national selection.BA have the quality players and their midfield is loaded with skill in players such as Marco van Wyk, Safile Heita, Willie van Wyk and Brian Bantam, all capable of causing misery for Hotspurs.Upfront, Akan can rely on their new signing Roger Kumbee, who has so far not disappointed with his clever runs and a good sense for the goal, while their main goal-getter Jerome Louis will once again be invaluable.Hotspurs have no big-name players but can capitalise on their underdog tag. They will settle for a draw, while a win will be a huge bonus and boost for the side which is hugely underrated at this stage.Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have a date with Ramblers at the same venue on Friday night, in a match that can produce drama from one corner flag to another.Pirates are in sixth spot on the log with five points from only one win and two draws, while Ramblers is in 10th spot with one point from two losses and a draw. corry@namibian.com.na
