Auala Jr to lead RMB global markets

Rmb namibia has appointed Rehabeam ‘Ray’ Auala Jr as its head of global markets effective 1 June.

The appointment comes as the bank plans to strengthen its market and risk management offering.

It also comes as demand for foreign exchange, risk management solutions and capital markets services continue to grow, the bank says.

In a statement issued yesterday, group spokesperson Kirsty Watermeyer says the bank has recorded growth in foreign exchange volumes and increased demand from clients seeking risk management solutions and access to capital markets.

She says the trends were also highlighted in the Bank of Namibia 2025 annual report.

“RMB continues to strengthen its global markets capability, helping clients manage financial risk, access markets and navigate an increasingly dynamic investment environment,” she says.

Auala Jr has more than 12 years’ experience within the FirstRand Namibia group, having joined the organisation as a bursary student.

He has experience across financial accounting, treasury and global markets and has led RMB’s trade and execution desk.

The group says his experience across different areas of the business and his understanding of clients and financial markets position him to lead the bank’s global markets division.

He holds an honours degree from the University of Cape Town with majors in economics, accounting and finance.

“He has also completed specialist financial markets and leadership programmes, including ACI Dealing and the CFA programme,” Watermeyer says.

RMB Namibia chief executive Daniel Motinga says the appointment reflects Auala Jr’s contribution to the business and the bank’s confidence in the talent it has developed.

He says global markets are a business built on judgement, technical expertise and trust.

Motinga says Auala Jr’s has earned the confidence of colleagues and clients through his ability to understand markets, make sound decisions and lead with humility.

“Just as importantly, he shares our belief that strong financial markets contribute to a stronger economy, and that makes him the right person to lead this business into its next chapter,” Motinga says.

Auala Jr also serves on RMB’s corporate social investment committee and on the boards of several non-profit organisations, reflecting his commitment to developing people and strengthening communities.

Auala Jr says Namibian businesses are operating in an environment where market conditions could change quickly, while opportunities increasingly extended beyond the country’s borders.

“Our role is to help clients respond with confidence, giving them access to the insight and market solutions they need to manage risk, make informed decisions and grow their businesses.”

He says he is looking forward to working with clients and teams as the bank continues building a global markets business that supports both its ambitions and the development of the country’s financial sector.
