IT can be difficult to drag yourself out of bed some mornings, and getting ready for work can seem like such a chore. More so when you are not really excited about being at work.
Many of us probably go through a similar stage at some point in our lives. We lose our drive, energy and passion.
When you are not happy, your job can seem like a burden. This is an unfortunate reality in the lives of many people. But when you consider what life would be like without that monthly paycheck, you realise how badly you really need that job.
So you get up and go work which becomes just another day of praying the day away. Until you can get home, and get lost in your fantasies. We all have dreams and often we’d rather live in that world and even make a living off of it. I am sure the world may even be a much happier place for it.
But then there is the other side of the coin, when reality sits us down and limits us to the life we find ourselves in, whether we like it or not.
I believe you will never really experience ultimate satisfaction if you do not live a life in which all that you do is done with love. You will never really achieve happiness until you live your dream.
But the reality is you have bills to pay and a life to maintain. Many have other lives to maintain – children, spouses, ageing parents, even siblings and extended family.
This is what shakes us out of our fog to get up and go to work.
Namibian business leader Sven Thieme loves the adage “if you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life”. I believe this is the truth for those who are fortunate enough to live their dreams.
Some manage to develop a passion for what they do, whether it was their initial dream or not.
If you have passion for and love what you do, your responsibilities become a joy to execute. Whereas if you are not happy in your job, it is quite a challenge to get things done.
Yeah, you get it done but not with the excitement you would have brought if you were passionate about it.
Sometimes it is not the actual job that is so demotivating, but rather the people you work with. For some the greatest de-motivator is their boss. I’ve experienced this and I realise that the relationship you have with your superior can contribute immensely to your enthusiasm to be at work.
I hate to say this but until you get to that place in your life where you live your dream, we unfortunately have to bear these experiences.
Whether you like what you do or not, for now this is what you have. Just do the best you can.
I had a conversation with my mom the other day about how ungrateful we are for what we have and how we need to be more thankful for being able to earn an income. This was after reading a recent newspaper article that said Namibia has 67 000 unemployed graduates.
Gents, I am not saying give up on your dreams. Nor that you should settle. Sometimes we just need to adjust our attitude a little bit to make the best of things.
But do this while you build on that dream.
Get up with a thankful spirit and approach your daily tasks at work with enthusiasm. Do your job as if you are doing it for God and not for men. I am pretty sure you will excel and stand out.
Sometimes it is just our attitude that needs a little bit of adjustment in order for everything around us to change. If you can’t be happy and grateful for the little you have, how will you ever be happy with more?
The right attitude can change your life.
Till next time, cheers!
