ELEVEN Arrows players will be poised to prove to club owner Johnny Doeseb that they are championship material with a task of dismissing Black Africa in the final of the FNB Football Festival tomorrow. Kick-off is at 18h00.
Despite the fact that Arrows will go in as the underdogs, their strengths cannot be undermined, while BA, Namibia’s top side when it comes to cup competitions, will also have something up their sleeves.
Doeseb this year publicly declared that his side will win the league title.
His players need to underline that statement with a steady performance against BA and at the same time, give the many Arrows supporters the hope that the Walvis Bay based-side is indeed championship material.
The win will at least give Arrows something to cheer about after a long dry spell without any major trophies of close to 10 years now.
But for BA, it will also not be business as usual despite being the favourites, but they will be expected to dig deep to keep their ‘cup kings’ tag intact.
BA had a good run against old foes Tigers in a friendly match on Wednesday afternoon and they will have intentions of clinching the newly introduced mini-tournament after the FNB Cup was abolished.
BA will be without their caretaker coach Ronnie Kanalelo, who has now officially taken over as goalkeeper coach at South African premiership outfit Maritzburg United.
He replaced another Namibian, Sparks Gottlieb, in that department.
But his services will seemingly not be missed as many supporters clearly called for his head after he was labelled as too autocratic. Fans have also criticised his team selection.
With or without Kanalelo, BA have the chance to capture new throne as they are playing at their home ground, but if they don’t, they will kick themselves and Kanalelo will be smiling despite his absence.
Tigers and African Stars will battle it out for the third and fourth position, but before that, a National Media Team takes on an FNB Invitational Team.
The Media Team, captained by Tommy Katamila, will have prominent but fast-paced journalists, while the other team, skippered by Cassius Moetie, has to cope with the pressure from the scribes who will be doing duty away from the newsrooms.
The journalists will aim to win their first cup since their team was established last year. The first match of the day starts at 14h00.
