Aochamub too costly for the NBC

MTC’s Corporate Communications boss Albertus Aochamub will not be taking over the reins at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), the State broadcaster revealed yesterday.

Aochamub, who was the favoured candidate for the NBC’s controversial Director General position after it became vacant in February, apparently comes at too high a price for the broadcaster to lure him from his current employer. In a media statement yesterday, acting NBC board chairperson Frieda Shimbuli said the recruitment process would be reactivated with immediate effect yesterday morning.’The board wishes to make known that the recruitment process for the NBC (DG) position was successfully completed and resulted in Mr Albertus Aochamub emerging as the successful candidate for the position. Even (so), no formal offer was made out to him to date,’ she said. She confirmed media reports that the board had been in consultation with Aochamub to discuss salary matters.’Subsequent to these consultations it became apparent that the two parties would not be able to find common ground. ‘Consequently, the board deemed it fit not to proceed with the appointment and resolved not to make any formal employment offer to Mr Aochamub,’ she said.In line with the board’s decision, the contract of current acting DG, Andrew Kanime, has been extended for another month.Sources at the NBC indicated this week that Kanime is likely to emerge as the new favourite for the job.He started his duties at the broadcaster on February 5, following the removal by the board of then DG Bob Kandetu. In her statement, Shimbuli thanked the acting DG for his ‘exceptional performance over the past three months’.Kanime yesterday denied reports that he had quit as General Manager for Human Resources.
