UNWRAP.ONLINEThe 25-five-year-old Anna Shalihu is humbly making her way into the big leagues as a multi-faceted creative who sings, dances and draws.
Born at Omaruru and raised in Windhoek, Shalihu says she does not know which of her talents she acquired first.
“I don’t remember. I just did everything from singing to dancing and drawing, basically doing everything simultaneously ever since I was in primary school,” Shalihu says.
Being a graphic designer at Innovate, Shalihu says there are no limits to what a human being can do. “ I’m inspired by modern artists, I research and study them, that is why I do realism. My singing has always come naturally and the fact I do covers inspired me to create my own material,” she says.
She adds that all her creative endeavours started off as hobbies, but the pandemic gave her a reality check. “After Covid-19 hit I realised that this was my bread and butter, it was the one thing that could bring me an income. First I had my AS company and then I got hired by Innovate this year.”
She has been featured in the latest National Art Gallery of Namibia exhibition titled ‘What’s Your Story’, which was the culmination of a dynamic countrywide campaign involving more than 70 artists to partner the NAGN in producing artworks reflective of the times.
Shalihu also sang at Song Night before the pandemic, but now she says she mostly sings in church.
