Angola to plug into grid

LUANDA – Angola is to be part of a power interconnection project of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), which includes the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, the Angolan Secretary of State for Energy said in Luanda.

Secretary of State João Borges on Tuesday said that Angola was currently interconnected with Namibia and noted that this was the beginning of a link that was expected to be extended to South Africa.Participating in the 31st meeting of SADC energy experts, which began Tuesday, Borges said that the meeting would mainly serve to provide an update of decisions made at the previous meeting, in relation to the integration and development of a number of development project in the power production and transmission sector.The 14 SADC member countries will discuss issues such as development of the SADC’s strategy, execution of the development path for the electricity sector and the power sector’s priorities in the 2010-11 period at the meeting. – www.macauhub.com
