Angels join Magic at the top

V Power Angels joined Tura Magic at the top of the Skorpion Zinc Women’s Super League log after the fifth round of action on Saturday.

The Angels beat Girls Football Academy 2-0 to join Magic on 13 points after Magic dropped their first points of the season in a hard fought goalless draw against Khomas Nampol.

Angles’ exciting midfielder Fiola Viete once again gave a fine performance, scoring both their goals in the first half to clinch the match and win the player of the match award.

Khomas Nampol, meanwhile, dropped down to third place on 11 points after being held to a goalless draw by Tura Magic.

Both sides gave it their all in an intense midfield battle that saw some tough tackles going in from both teams and a number of fouls being committed.

Most of the action took place in a tightly contested midfield and the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game, with few opportunities on either side.

For Tura Magic, Lydiana Nanamus headed wide from a Thomalina Adams corner early on, while Millicent Hikuam had a free kick saved.

At the other end, Mammie Kasaona had a shot blocked from a corner, while Martina Tjauha shot narrowly wide after a fine attack by Stella Williams.

Magic came close early in the second half when Nampol keeper Susanna Eises pulled off a diving save from a Lovisa Mulunga shot, while Ester Iita shot wide from the resulting corner.

Twelikondjela Amukoto came close for Nampol on a counter attack, but Melissa Matheus did well to rush out and clear the danger, while at the other end Thomalina Adams sent in a perfect cross from the right wing, but there was no one in the box to put it away, and the sides had to settle for a goalless draw.

Twelikondjela Amukoto of Khomas Nampol won the player of the match award.

Namib Daughters moved up to fourth position on 10 points after beating Unam Bokkies 1-0 at the coast.

Ignacia Haoses maintained her excellent goal scoring form by scoring the winning goal – her seventh of the season, which puts her second on the goal scoring list behind Anna Marie Shikusho of Tura Magic on 10.

Galz & Goals moved up to fifth position on six points after beating Right Way FC 3-1. Shanice Daries, who scored a hattrick for Galz & Goals, won the player of the match award, while Nguvitjita Kahitu scored for Right Way.

Nust Babes, meanwhile, recorded their first win of the season after beating Omaheke Queens 3-2 in Gobabis.

Laurika Afrikaner, Natalia Kaaronda and Defney Naobes scored for Nust Babes, while Brenda Tjozongoro and Winnie Kamuhenue replied for Omaheke Queens.

The victory sees Nust Babes moving two places up from the foot of the table, while Omaheke Queens and Unam Bokkies now occupy the bottom two positions on two and one points respectively.
