THE Mwadinomho Combined School at Ondeihaluka village in the Ohangwena Region has received close to N$290 000 from an American eye surgeon.

Dr Michael Colvard, who has an eye clinic in Los Angeles, previously visited Namibia to offer free eye operations with Namibian eye specialist Dr Helena Ndume, who is a patron of the school. Together the doctors visited the school and Dr Colvard decided to collect money among his friends and patients back home. His first donation to the school was in 2006, when he gave N$70 000 and sport equipment.Last year, Dr Colvard donated N$109 000 to start a school feeding programme for needy children. On Friday last week, Dr Colvard again visited Mwadinomho Combined School and gave them N$110 940.The latest donation will be used to buy textbooks, to support a school feeding scheme and start a school garden named after Dr Colvard. At the handover, school principal Dominicus Elago said the feeding programme had reduced absenteeism and children could concentrate better in school because they were not hungry anymore.Together the doctors visited the school and Dr Colvard decided to collect money among his friends and patients back home. At the handover, school principal Dominicus Elago said the feeding programme had reduced absenteeism and children could concentrate better in school because they were not hungry anymore.
