The date, stages and entries are all set for the Shell V-Power Tsumeb Rally this weekend.
Leg three of the national rally championships is set for this Saturday when the Shell V-Power Tsumeb Rally kicks off with 12 entries – two fewer than last year.
Tsumeb Motor Club (TMC) chairperson Jaco Haasbroek says the rally will kick off at 10h00 in front of the Minen Hotel in the centre of town.
It will serve as the rally headquarters from Friday, from where officials, marshals and teams will operate.
Like last year, teams will face nine stages covering a distance of just over 100km.
Six of these stages are spectator-friendly and easily accessible, Haasbroek says.
One of the most spectacular stages is the oval race track just outside town.
This venue’s claim to fame is the high speed and technical skills needed to manoeuvre the cars through the track, all in full view of the spectators.
Of the 12 entries, five are in the CR class (off-road or bakkie), and the remaining seven vehicles are entered in the S-class (sedan category).
Alan Martin and Maretha Olivier as navigator, Zachary Martin and Anique Schoeman, Pieter Greeff and JP Robinson, and sisters Stefanie Botha and Mandi Landsberg in the S-class are among the participants.
In the CR class, Werner Bartsch and Christel Fourie will enter with their Land Rover V8 Defender.
They had an incident during the Tara Rally last month, in which they damaged their car’s front suspension just before the finishing line but still managed to complete the event.
It took serious repairs and replacements to ensure they are ready for leg three.
Other names in the CR class include Rolf and Katja Pretorius in their Chenowith 3.5L V8 space frame vehicle, and Ekko Eisenberg and Horazio ‘Rassie’ Rietz in their JAC T8 D/C V8.
The first teams are expected to arrive at the finishing line at around 15h46, where they started.
Haasbroek called on spectators to ensure they abide by the safety and road instructions of the marshals, officials and traffic department to ensure an incident-free rally.
This event is made possible by Shell V-Power, M+Z Motors, Powerline Africa, Minen Hotel and Van Dyk Petroleum.
It is hosted by the TMC and held under the International Motorsport Federation and the Namibia Motorsport Federation.
