All Are Equal…

All Are Equal…

I WOULD like to express my views on the issue reported in The Namibian of August 21 that President Pohamba threatened that “those who do not like Government protecting former President Sam Nujoma must pack up and go and the Government would happily give them one-way tickets”.

President Pohamba is wrong to issue such an inflammatory statement in a democratic country. Does he want the laws to be violated? This country does not belong to Swapo party or to a particular individual. The President does not have any right whatsoever to chase any citizen/resident/visitor from this country.Namibia is not only for the former President and his praise singers. Why are President Pohamba and others afraid to have the former President investigated by a competent court? Are they afraid of the outcome? These people were born here, they are sons of our soil, Mr President.Where do you want them to go? These people are there for protection of the rights of all Namibia that is why they take the decision to take the former President and others to court. When someone violates the law, he/ she must be brought to book.Mr President, you are just concerned about the former President being prosecuted but you do not care about other Namibian people who want to know what happened to their beloved ones? You are just telling people that they must “pack up and go”, instead of telling the truth. We want to know what happened to our fathers, mothers, uncles, brothers and sisters. Why it is a taboo when people are talking about the truth, they are told to pack and go? We are in a democratic country, where we can criticise anyone who is doing wrong and take to any court anyone suspected of having committed a crime. Why always when people are talking about something wrong (especially by Nujoma) you are given a bad name and insults.Nujoma is just like any other citizen of this country and he is not above the law.If he commits any crime he must be brought to book like any other citizen. If it was you, Mr President, in the same shoes as Nujoma, do you think Nujoma is going to defend you like you are doing for him? Or are you forced to do so? You say you are not “a puppet or a remote control of Nujoma”.What is that now you are doing to your nation because of Nujoma? You call your Government an anti-corruption government. Is Nujoma included in this? If he is included then he can be prosecuted just like other citizen of this country without any obstacle.NSHR is just doing its job.Mr Nujoma must stand up and defend himself if he knows that the NSHR claims are not true.He has his own mouth. Why he is quiet? “Okumwena okudimina vati!” (Silent is consent).Shimweefeleni Via e-mailDoes he want the laws to be violated?
