Agra needs 700 more votes

IN the process to convert from a co-operative to a public company, Agra has already obtained the support of more 78 per cent of the required ‘yes’ votes, management said yesterday.

A total of 2 473 Agra members voted, of which only 71 ‘no’ votes were received.’This interim result shows an overwhelming support for the conversion to take place. Agra once again pleads with its members to bring out their votes in this very important process,’ the co-operative said in a statement. In order to be able to proceed with the conversion, another 700 ‘yes’ votes are necessary.’Most active Agra members have voted – the challenge is now to get hold of our members who terminated farming or who moved or changed address without notifying Agra,’ Flip de Bruyn, Senior Manager Finance at Agra, said.’There is also still the notion among Agra members that by not voting, they actually support the conversion process. This is unfortunately not the case: Any member who does not vote is effectively voting ‘no’. ‘Agra needs active ‘yes’ votes signed by each member who supports the conversion,’ De Bruyn said. Agra staff at all Agra branches is working hard to make sure that every member uses the chance to have a say in this important decision. ‘We trust that all members who have not yet cast their vote, will make an all-out effort to ensure that the members’ choice is implemented,’ De Bruyn said.
