Agnes 8th in 1 500m final

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s track star, Agnes Samaria, improved her own 1 500m record when she finished eighth in the final of the World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan yesterday.

Her previous 1 500m record was at four minutes and 08,06 seconds (4:08.06) but she improved it to 4:07.61. Samaria entered the final on the back of a fourth place in the semi-final heats but she found the going too tough in the final against some of the world’s best runners in that distance. From the starting shot, she settled for a middle-of-the-pack position and was never in the race among the big guns of middle distance running, including eventual winner Maryam Jusuf Jamal of Bahrain and Yelena Soboleva of Russia who won the silver medal.By the midpoint, Samaria’s group was around 25 metres off the pace but she garnered all her power to close the gap and finish in eighth position.NampaSamaria entered the final on the back of a fourth place in the semi-final heats but she found the going too tough in the final against some of the world’s best runners in that distance. From the starting shot, she settled for a middle-of-the-pack position and was never in the race among the big guns of middle distance running, including eventual winner Maryam Jusuf Jamal of Bahrain and Yelena Soboleva of Russia who won the silver medal.By the midpoint, Samaria’s group was around 25 metres off the pace but she garnered all her power to close the gap and finish in eighth position.Nampa
