A tribute to the late SA High Commissioner to Namibia, Timothy Maseko

A GREAT man has fallen.

But he lived his life to the fullest. He has completed his race.He achieved all that he set out to achieve. But most importantly, he has left us a legacy, which will live on in the millions who continue to defend and advance what he stood for.I bid farewell to a colossus in the liberation struggle. On the 12th of January 2007, we gathered at Walter Sisulu Hall in Johannesburg not only to mourn the passing of our comrade Ntate Maseko, but also to celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest. We gathered to celebrate a life of unparalleled resilience, unwavering determination and unbelievable courage. We celebrated Ntate Maseko’s unwavering determination to free the downtrodden, the poor from the yoke of apartheid colonialism. We celebrated honesty and humour. We celebrated selflessness, sacrifice and real leadership qualities. His spirit shall live on and his life shall continue to inspire many of us and those still to come.It is not our part to mourn. It is our right and privilege to celebrate the fact that we were blessed with so rare a gift of Tata Maseko, who surrendered his life to the cause of all humanity, a principled revolutionary, a true comrade.I quote from English poet John Donne as follows: “Death be not proud, thy hand gave not this blow The executioner of wrath thou art But to destroy the just is not thy part” Let us all pay tribute to our icon, father and mentor Timothy Maseko, by living our lives as he did and work to build a better future as he taught us.May your soul Rest in Peace Tata * Mntuwabantu Nduvane was a very close family friend to Mr Maseko and is the Managing Director of Total Namibia, he writes this tribute in his personal capacityHe has completed his race.He achieved all that he set out to achieve.
