A place in the sun for the Starlet

Priced right and with the luxury expected of bigger premium-brand vehicles, the Starlet does not have to take a back seat.

This five-seater has an engine upgrade from a 1,4 litre engine to a 1,5 litre engine, and the performance will not disappoint, says Genivo Mouton, the sales executive at Indongo Toyota.

The bright Luxe Red Starlet made available to Top Revs has not failed to impress as the car offers what any entry-level buyer needs.

From front to rear lights and all in between, the Starlet is an upgrade from the previous model, with a much sportier look, Mouton says.

The chrome trimmings complement the front grille and blend well with the rest of the car”;s front.

The colour-coded side mirrors and fitted indicators also contribute to the Starlet”;s panache.

The car targets the younger generation, but there is something for everyone in this range.

The Starlet enters at just over N$226 000 for the basic model (Xi) to just above N$313 000 for the top of the range (Xr).

This is well within reach for the beginner, and knowing the Starlet is backed by Indongo Toyota, it makes it a sure deal.

What is different compared to the previous Starlet?

Apart from the upgraded engine it has 7kW more output than the previous model, kicking out a comfortable 77kW, which is enough to power the car, as well as contribute to its fuel economy.

The car is really economical when it comes to fuel consumption.

The speed manual uses a mere 5,4 litre per 100km (around 18km/litre ), while the four-speed automatic model almost matches its cousin with a mere 5,7l/100km.

These calculations are done under normal driving conditions and can vary depending on the driver”;s attitude and driving style.

The 16-inch alloys not only complement the car”;s looks, but also contribute to driver comfort.

The top-of-the-range Xr also comes with side and curtain airbags additional to the already fitted dual-front airbags.

Other standards on the Xr are push-button start, two extra speakers (making it six), LED daytime running lights, cruise control, and a reverse camera.

To ease the burden of service and maintenance costs, Mouton says the Starlet comes with a three-year 100km warranty, and a three-year 45 00km service plan that can be extended at an additional cost.

“The price you pay and what the Starlet offers are just amazing,” Mouton says.
