A coupe with an attitude

FRANCOIS LOTTERING
THE BMW X6 is more than just a boldly powerhouse. The X6 has a place in the life of an executive who wants to make a public statement.

Sheer power, a car that is elevated above the rest and striking luxury that is not found in every car, this is how Top Revs can present the car to our readers.

Top Revs was invited by Pupkewitz BMW to their showroom for a totally different story when upon entering the X6 caught our eye and then time stood still.

This car is the kind of vehicle that shows that the person who buys it knows exactly what he/she wants.

“The inside of the car creates a sense of relaxation, knowing the performance of the 3.0L diesel will not disappoint,” David Philander, the sales executive of Pupkewitz BMW, told this writer.

This car is in a league of its own, yet a very exciting league, Philander added.

Top Revs echoes the same sentiments, as the X6 Coupe stands out in the showroom of this premium BMW brand.

But where does one start to share this excitement with the readers? The wheels? The performance of the car? The looks? The front or rear lights? The interior? Where to start and what to say remain a headache.

INTERIOR

I guess, like Philander said, the relaxation of the interior will be a good starting point, as many potential buyers start by looking at what the car offers from the outside.

Built with the driver's and passengers' luxury in mind, the inside of this X6 – with the cognac-coloured leather upholstery, interior trims, glass controls and ambient lighting – will amaze you when opening the doors.

The advanced technology ranging from integrated systems, drive recorder, parking assistance, remote access and even advanced protection are all functions that come standard.

Imagine a car that you can operate from your “My BMW App” to lock or unlock your X6 doors, or even start the car remotely to get all things running or even check your vehicle's status. Maybe many still think it is something in a sci-fi movie. It comes standard today.

Even advanced navigation and a voice activated intelligent personal assistant, the X6 has it.

Top Revs loves the voice-activated system as the driver can “tell” his/her X6 what to do, who to call or even find his/her destination by voice activation.

These are only but a few things the car can do.

To make sure you park your X6 without scratching or denting it against an object you cannot see, the car will even do that for you with its “parking assistance”.

PERFORMANCE

What comes under the bonnet is another story as any motorhead loves talking performance, top speed and engine capacity.

This X6 is not only impressive from outside, but the hidden part – the power train – gives the X6 the edge above the rest.

Governed at 250kph for safety reasons, this 3.0 diesel 620Nm means business, serious business in its class.

Since diesel is more about torque than kilowatts, this massive car has the capability to reach 100kph from standstill in under 7 seconds. That is impressive, and Top Revs can only imagine the sound coming from the engine when all the horses kick in to achieve that speed.

Despite the massive engine and above average SUV sized car, the X6 fuel usage is calculated at 7.2L/100km.

EXTERIOR

The outside is what draws the attention to many as the car's coupe shape does not compromise any space on the inside and seats five people with comfort.

BMW also introduced the “iconic glow grill”, Philander said as he explained to Top Revs.

“As you start the car, the massive front grill will start to glow to add some pizazz to tour X6. Even without glowing, the grill already has a way to keep your attention as it is not only impressive but also leaves some imagination alive when thinking about what the older generation BMWs looked like.”

The tyres are another edge on the car, Philander said. This makes the car more than capable of driving on tarred and gravel roads. This is still another level as even Top Revs will be hesitant to take this car on a gravel road. Yet Philander said it can handle both road surfaces. I guess that is a topic Philander and this author will have to deliberate on.

The front headlight cluster is more than an epitome to BMW's X6, as it gives the car its distinctive look while the rear lights give a 3D look when driving behind the car.

Looking at all the specs, ranging from safety, comfort, style and performance – this is surely a car to be considered when the next budget meeting takes place in the boardroom on what to buy for the person in charge.
