ECN challenges voters to bring evidence of favouritism

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says it is not favouring Swapo and if anyone has evidence to the contrary, they should produce it.

Speaking during a media briefing in Windhoek on Friday, ECN chairperson Elsie Nghikembua said the commission is an independent body with no political affiliation.


Unfair to exclude some regions from extended election – Zambezi opposition leaders

Some opposition leaders in the Zambezi region say the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s decision to extend the elections in a few regions is unfair to those in excluded regions.

The ECN on Thursday announced that the election would be extended for two days.

Materials for extended voting delayed at Oshakati

About 40 people at Okadjengedi Community Centre were unable to cast their votes on Friday morning as ballot papers were not delivered by 08h48.

Presiding officer Loide Eelu said the polling station opened at 07h00.




President Mbumba’s election extension proclamation unlawful – lawyer

Lawyer Henry Shimutwikeni says president Nangolo Mbumba’s extention of the elections is not lawful.

Mbumba, on the recommendation of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), on Thursday issued a proclamation stating election day is extended from 27 November to 30 November.





Remote Zambezi ECN teams face network challenges in uploading election results

Some Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) teams in the Zambezi region’s remote areas could not share election results on Thursday due to network challenges.

The affected teams were in the Kongola, Sibbinda, Kabbe South, and Kabbe North constituencies.







Selected polling stations not solving problem – opposition parties

Opposition political parties have expressed their dissatisfaction with the extension of voting at selected polling stations in the country.

The parties say more stations experienced voter suppression.


NBC clarifies directive prohibiting staff to report preliminary election results

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has clarified its directive to prohibit its staff members from providing live media updates or announcing election results from regional centres or polling stations.

The broadcaster says the directive is aimed at ensuring all its platforms align.

High voter turnout reported in Zambezi rural areas

Presiding officers in Zambezi’s rural areas say that they have recorded high voter turnout since the polling stations opened.

In an interview with The Namibian, Sachinga Combined School polling station presiding officer Njahi Ntengu noted that more than 270 individuals have cast their votes, of which the majority are pensioners.


Majority Zambezi residents vote despite ballot shortages

Zambezi regional Electoral Commission of Namibia says the majority of the region’s 52 173 registered eligible voters cast their votes despite ballot paper shortages experienced at some polling stations.

The presidential and National Assembly elections were conducted on Wednesday across the country.


AR wants ECN to explain irregularities

The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement has filed a formal complaint with the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).

The AR cites ballot shortages, mobile teams failing to set up and the ECN turning voters away illegally.





















Ballot papers were sufficient – ECN

Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) chief electoral and referenda officer Peter Shaama says ballot papers were sufficient.

He says this despite reports from some polling stations in the Kavango East, Omusati, Oshana, Khomas, //Kharas and Omaheke regions that ran out of ballot papers on Wednesday.


Mudge wants elections declared invalid

Republican Party (RP) president Henk Mudge said the RP will work with other political parties to declare the presidential and National Assembly elections invalid.

While many Namibians participated in the elections on 27 November, others were unable to due to insufficient ballot papers at various polling stations.
