Zikomo Africa Awards on the hunt for local talent

• PINEHAS NAKAZIKOTHE second edition of the annual Zikomo Africa Awards to take place in Lusaka, in Zambia, this year, is looking for the cream of the entertainment crop in African communities, including Namibia.

Award-winning Namibian actress Nadula Hainane, who was recently appointed as brand ambassador of the Zikomo Africa Awards in Namibia, is urging Namibians to take part in this important event.

Awards will be granted to the best in African music, TV, film-making, fashion, fitness, photography, and comedy, as well as to the most popular media personalities, dancers, humanitarians, entrepreneurs, and motivational speakers.

“As a Zikomo Africa Awards brand ambassador in Namibia, I am here to engage with prospective and existing customers,” Hainane says.

She says as an ambassador, she will represent the brand at promotional events and other marketing initiatives, act as a subject matter expert for the brand, and communicate with potential investors and partners.

“Apart from that, I am responsible for responding to questions and concerns in person, telephonically and via email and social media, promoting our brand on social media, recording feedback, and relaying them to the team. I am also responsible for driving the brand … and engaging sponsors,” she says.

She says the second Zikomo Africa Awards ceremony will be bigger and better, and will be covered and televised by big international media platforms, such as the BBC.

“This will give both local and international businesses various opportunities to make their products and services visible.”

The first edition of the awards took place on 8 April 2021 in Lusaka, and attracted many people across the globe.

According to Hainane, the nominees came from all 52 African countries, including Namibia.

Five Namibian women, Nadula Hainane, Maria Nepembe, Maria Lisa, August Utoni and Tressia Shongola, scooped awards last year.

The awards were sponsored by several companies within and outside Zambia.

“It being the first edition last year, the response was very positive – both in Africa and the rest of the world,” says Hainane.

She says the Zikomo Africa Awards has this year attracted many followers on its social media platforms.

“This is an indication that the brand is growing at supersonic speed.”

Those interested in being nominated should contact the organisers via the awards’ social media platforms or their website.
