Zambezi region launches K9 unit

THE Zambezi regional police K9 unit was officially launched on Tuesday after receiving two dogs (one for sniffing explosives and the other for patrol and tracking) from the inspector general, Sebastian Ndeitunga’s office.

The police K9 units contain specifically trained dogs that assist the police and other law-enforcement personnel in patrolling, tracking and sniffing for explosives and drugs.

Regional police commissioner in the Zambezi region Karel Theron said the dogs are well trained and will be used to do security sweeps in the region whenever the need arises.

“Very soon the operation Kalahari desert will start again and if there is a need we will make use of our patrol dog for cases like housebreaking and stock theft,” he said.

At the launch, the handlers demonstrated the trained dogs’ abilities to the councillors at the Zambezi Regional Council Offices.
