ALLOW me a space in your esteemed paper to express my honest feeling about what I think is not really good in the Kunene Region concerning youth development.
In this so-called great Kunene we the youth are totally neglected in terms of youth development compared to the other 13 regions of Namibia. I am really worried as a youth activist and a youth leader about the current situation in the region, and am asking myself as to what the regional council and local authority councils are doing, because we are suffering. Is there no budget provision for youth development programmes or what is going on, especially at the Kunene Regional Council? The higher authorities in the region are turning a blind eye to the youth of our region. Youths of this region have many project proposals and in some cases they even submit them to the regional council but nothing has been done so far. What are we doing as the region towards the set goal of this country of Vision 2030?Why should politics be a stumbling block towards the development of our young? I am very much grateful for what the Kunene Regional Youth Forum is doing and I hope they can do more if all political parties play a role in this.Youth development must be of paramount importance in our society as the youth are the custodians and the future leaders of our country.I would also like to urge the Regional Governor, Joshua //Hoëbeb, to look into this matter. I would also be glad if the governor’s office takes sole responsibility of youth development in the region.I am afraid as a youth of this region that if there is nothing being done to address this issue we will perish from alcohol and drug abuse. I want the regional government to bring in and encourage youth developmental projects like aqua culture, gardening, tailoring, craft making and many others. I also want regional leadership to strengthen the constituency and regional youth fora. We got new mayors with new local authority councillors and also a new governor with his council but there is nothing tangible being done so far in the region. The Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture should also bring their part towards the upliftment of our future leaders. We want well equipped multi-purpose youth centres in all the six constituencies, with at least one youth officer employed by the youth ministry.Sixty percent (60%) of this country’s population consists out of the youth and if youth development issues are not address then we will fail in the planning of the future of this country. Please safe our future we are counting on you, Comrade Governor.Leon /AibKunene Region
