Julinho Athletic Football Club’s annual youth tournament continues to grow, with more than 1 200 young players turning out last weekend.

It was the fifth successive year that the event had been held, and this year’s edition saw 13 teams from Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Rosh Pinah competing for honours in nine different age groups categories ranging from u7 to u17.

Competition was fierce, while the spoils were shared quite evenly.

Julinho Athletic (JAFC) itself won three titles, along with Sport Klub Windhoek, while Windhoek City Football Academy won two titles and Teenagers Football Club from Swakopmund one title.

Isaac Tjombonde, the chairperson of the board of Julinho Athletic Football Academy said it was a resounding success.

“The tournament was a big success – there was a large turnout of players and spectators, and we were also blessed to have the prime minister there, as a parent supporting his child.

“The competition was tough and there were a lot of different winners which bodes well for the development of youth football in general,” he said.

The u17 final witnessed a very competitive and high-tempo match between Julinho Academy and Ramblers, with Julinho eventually winning the title after a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Julinho also won the u12 and u9 titles.

In the u12 final they beat SKW, while DTS won the u12 Plate division after beating Eric Quest Football Academy in the final.

In the u9 final, JAFC beat DTS 3, while Ramblers won the u9 Plate division after beating SKW.

Sport Klub Windhoek won the u15, u13 titles and u7 titles.

In the u15 final they beat JAFC, and in the 13 final they beat DTS. Pamoja Football Academy won the u13 Plate division after beating JAFC in the final.

Teenagers FC of Swakopmund won the u11 title after beating International School Walvis Bay in the final, while Kaizen Football Academy won the u11 Plate division.

SKW also won the u7 title after beating Ramblers in the final, while JAFC 1 won the u7 Plate division after beating JAFC 2 in the final.

Windhoek City Football Academy won the u8 category after beating JAFC 1 in the final, while International School Walvis Bay beat Swakopmund FC in the u8 Plate final.
