Yes to Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace

Deputy minister of health and social services Suzan Ndjaleka

Deputy minister of health and social services Suzan Ndjaleka’s call for employers to introduce breastfeeding-friendly workplace policies is a needed discussion that fits the modern workplace.

Ndjaleka rightly says mothers should never have to choose between their careers and their children’s well-being. Companies, especially banks, have so far shown that this can be the norm at the workplace.

And it goes beyond breastfeeding. Last year, the Namibia Airports Company was criticised for proposing a daycare centre at its headquarters.

But perhaps it is part of the future of work – one that makes life easier.

It’s high time the civil service, which is one of the country’s biggest employers, embraces modern workspace initiatives.
