ETERNAL tough guy Jason Statham kicks butt and hunts for names in Guy Ritchie’s ‘Wrath of Man’ (2021). A blunt revenge film set in the world of armoured trucks after an underworld job goes wrong.
Delivering on the ensemble, Ritchie films are famous for but not bothering to develop anyone beyond an outline, ‘Wrath of Man’ hinges on a mysterious character named Hill, whose emotionless face and reputation is enough to send bad guys running for the, err, hills.
If you’re keen to see characters played by Post Malone on the unfortunate side of a gun or you need your sporadic dose of Josh Hartnett, you may want to catch this one but lower any lofty expectations.
A Ritchie film that is a little lighter on the quips and quirky characters that define the best of his work, ‘Wrath of Man’ is made in the mould of very violent action and revenge films such as ‘Taken’ or ‘John Wick’. Though Statham being the quintessential tough Statham character isn’t inherently a bad thing, even he seems a little over it.
Entertaining enough for action and Statham fans and based on the French ‘Cash Truck’ (2004),’Wrath of Man’ will give you veterans gone rogue, heists, revenge and double-crosses just about buoyed by stars Holt McCallany, Scott Eastwood, Jeffrey Donovan and Darrell D’Silva.
