Windhoek in the Khomas region recorded the lowest inflation in April when compared to other regions in the country.

According to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) consumer price index report released this week, inflation – a measure of the rise in prices of goods and services – in Windhoek was 3.2%.

Windhoek was followed by zone 1 (the Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa and Zambezi regions) with an annual inflation rate of 3.7%.

Meanwhile zone 3 (the //Kharas, Erongo, Hardap and Omaheke regions) recorded the highest rate of 4.1%.

According to the report, consumers in zone 2 paid the most for 750ml of pure sunflower oil – N$33.43 – followed by zone 1 (N$32.58) and zone 3, where consumers paid the least (N$31.95).

Meanwhile, consumers in zone 1 paid the most for 100g of rooibos teabags at N$37.76, followed by zone 3 at N$35.17, and Windhoek consumers paid the lowest price of N$33.74.

The headline annual inflation rate for April was 3.6%, a decline when compared to 4.8% recorded in April 2024.

Headline inflation measures the rate of change in the price of a basket of goods and services, including volatile items such as food and energy.

These elements tend to experience significant price fluctuations due to factors such as weather conditions, geopolitical events or changes in supply and demand.

On a monthly basis, the inflation rate rose by 0.2 percentage points, compared to 0.5 percentage points recorded during March.

“Considering that April marks the start of a financial year, the inflation rate for April 2025 is coincidentally the fiscal inflation for the 2025/26 financial year,” said statistician general Alex Shimuafeni.

However the core inflation rate was 4%, which is higher than the headline inflation rate.

Core inflation excludes certain volatile elements from the overall inflation calculation.
