The Windhoek Motor Club (WMC) celebrated its top performers this past weekend, recognising their contributions to motorsport at both local and regional levels.
The awards spanned various disciplines, including circuit racing, motocross, go-karting and rallying. Club chairperson Richard Slamet noted that the club had paused its awards ceremonies for two years out of respect following the deaths of national leaders.
A ceremony was held to celebrate the teams’ achievements, coinciding with the WMC’s annual general meeting. The meeting served as a platform to review the past year and strategise for the 2026 season.
A new committee was elected to lead the WMC for the next two years. Slamet was re-elected as chairperson, supported by Clive Strydom as vice chairperson and Carla Kruger as secretary.
Slamet announced that representatives for the various racing codes would be named shortly. These individuals will serve as the primary points of contact for their respective disciplines, ensuring streamlined communication with the executive committee.”
The committee cannot always be everywhere,” Slamet said, adding that code representatives will meet monthly with the executive to provide progress updates.
Looking ahead, the WMC aims to strengthen its international ties by both hosting and sending competitors to neighbouring countries.”
We are planning to grow, not only as a country, but as a group of countries,” Slamet said. Last year, Namibian fans were treated to displays by South African drifters, while a circuit racing team from Angola challenged local drivers late in the season. The club intends to build on this momentum, with plans for more international events in Namibia throughout 2026.
