Wendy’s Creations’ ‘Wedding of Year’ revealed

Wendy’s Creations’ annual event, the ‘Wedding of the Year’, has become something to watch out for.

Owner of Wendy’s Creations Windeline Kausiona said the project is something she has been working on all year.

Kausiona, Namibia’s self-proclaimed ‘wedding fairy godmother’, has a talent for planning, styling and executing events to perfection. Every year, she invites couples to apply to participate. Those who are interested must have a budget of between
N$300 000 and N$400 000.

“From those who apply, I normally do a shortlist process and then set a session with the couple so we can talk about the project. After selecting the perfect couple, we all agree to keep the event a secret until the main day,” Kausiona said.

This year’s wedding, organised for lucky couple Helena Naanda and Rickson Figura, was held at the University of Namibia’s stadium in Windhoek last Saturday and an accompanying video was officially launched last night.

Since the wedding, social media has been abuzz with people sharing photographs of the beautiful decor.

“This was my best work thus far and it is trendy,” said Kausiona. “My 2019 wedding was a golden, white classic wedding. There was a huge cake, a designed ceiling and plenty of flowers. I went for roses and hydrangeas.”

Kausiona said the idea for the event came to her seven years ago. “I wanted to do something that would create hype about my work. I have noticed each year that the demand for the event is growing bigger. This year, many people showed up just to come and see. This caused the space to be too small,” she said.

Bernice Bock, who attended the wedding, was very impressed with the ambience created. “I have never seen anything so beautiful and elegant. The bride was in tears after she saw the venue. This is almost any woman’s dream come true. A perfect wedding,” she said.

At this year’s event, Kausiona launched a couples workshop, which she feels is important as it better prepares her clients for the next big step in their lives.

“We talk about budgeting for the wedding and also the legal aspects. I have noticed that many couples don’t understand what it really means to get married. As my clients, I feel that I owe them this. It’s a good way of giving back to the community.”

Kausiona has also been enjoying continental exposure lately. Last month she returned from a wedding conference in Ghana where she was a guest speaker. Early next year, she is expected to attend a wedding seminar in Nigeria.

“At the seminar, I will be talking about my experience in Ghana. I will also introduce my ‘Wedding of Year’ project,” she said.
