Warriors to play Cosafa group games in Moruleng

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s senior national soccer team, the Brave Warriors are set to play all their group games of the upcoming Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup in the mining village of Moruleng.

The annual football tournament will this year be hosted by South Africa’s North West province of Rustenburg from 17 to 30 May.

Cosafa have indicated that the state-of-the-art Moruleng Stadium will host all the Brave Warriors’ group games.

The mining village of Moruleng is located 60 kilometres from Rustenburg, and was used as a training venue during the 2010 International Federation of Association Football (Fifa) World Cup.

The England national team played local North West province club Platinum Stars at the facility in a friendly match ahead of the global showpiece.

Speaking to Nampa on Monday, national team coach Ricardo Mannetti said he does not know much about the stadium, but his objective of competing at the tournament still remains the same.

“Our preparation will remain the same for the competition, playing away from Rustenburg does not change anything in our preparations,” said Mannetti.

He added that he plans to host a training session after consultations with football clubs for the release of their players.

The opening game of the Cosafa Cup 2015 will be played on 17 May between Namibia and Seychelles at Moruleng at 14h00, Namibian winter time.

Each match-day venue will have a double-header in the opening group stage, with Zimbabwe taking on Mauritius later in the day at 16h30.

The Moruleng Stadium will also host an enticing double-header on 24 May featuring Zambia against the winner of Group A, while host South Africa takes on Botswana in the second fixture of the day.
