Vote against ‘history politics’

RDP President Hidipo Hamutenya on Saturday called on all Namibians to vote for his party, saying it is the only party that could bring real change.

Addressing a large crowd at the party’s first rally at Oshakati, Hamutenya charged that the Swapo leadership had completely lost its way and was only concentrating on ‘history politics’.’Vote for change, vote for visionaries and dedicated leaders of RDP who are ready to lead you into an atmosphere of peace, harmony and good co-operation with your international brothers and sisters,’ Hamutenya said.He said the RDP had made its presence felt in Namibia and also abroad, and after the November elections its presence would be felt by many more people. He said Swapo felt threatened by the RDP because it had good ideas and a vision for the country and its people, whereas Swapo had none.He said ‘Swapo chief’ Sam Nujoma’s recent xenophobic statements against British and American people were evidence of this fear. ‘Fellow Namibians, these people whose heads Swapo wants to hammer, these Americans, English people and Germans, are the people who are pumping in billions of Namibia dollars to keep the development of Namibia moving, to help our education, our health, our roads infrastructure,’ Hamutenya said.’If you have a government with diplomatic relations with countries like America, Britain, Germany and others, and you say you do not like foreigners, only Angolans, you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re in a mess and have completely lost vision,’ he said.Hamutenya said many Namibians and many foreign diplomats in the country were stunned by Nujoma’s call on Namibians to ‘beat Englishmen on the head with hammers’. ‘Namibia does not have proper leaders in its Government now. The picture of Namibia in the world is no more good… We need change now, before it is to late,’ Hamutenya said.About corruption, Hamutenya said Namibia would go bankrupt soon and development would come to an end because Swapo leaders and their government do not want to do anything about corruption.’Look at Kapia, accused of something very serious, the Avid thing [investment scandal], but Swapo is bringing him back to Parliament. What a shame,’ he said.Hamutenya described the northern railway project as a waste of money and energy, dreamed up to boost ‘someone’s’ image. He said he and former Trade Minister Jesaya Nyamu had warned that the project would be a white elephant, but they were hated for the good advice. After the rally, some of the ‘struggle children’ camping at the Swapo headquarters in Oshakati shouted and threw stones at the RDP convoy, but the Police intervened and calmed the situation.
