SEASONED Namibian international footballer Robert Nauseb has left South African premiership club Santos this week, after they did not agree on renewing his contract.
Nauseb told The Namibian Sport from Cape Town yesterday that they reached an agreement that his contract not be renewed. He said three other clubs were interested in his services next season.”I cannot say which club is interested in me at this stage, because I am still waiting for their offers,” he said.Nauseb (34) did not play much football last season due to a foot injury, while the new coach at Santos also had new plans with the team he had been working on at the time Nauseb was nursing his injury.”I played in several friendly matches for Santos since I started training in January, but not much on the higher level as I was not part of the plans of the coach,” he said.He said once he has signed up with one of the clubs in South Africa next season, he will fight for a regular place and will be eligible for selection to the national team.”I still want to play for the national team.I think the current team is good enough and if I can make it and be part of it, it will be a bonus for me.I will give all my best for the country,” he said.Nauseb, who did not make the ship to the African Nations Cup in Ghana earlier this year, despite taking the team through the qualifiers as skipper, said he aims to play for the Warriors by November when he is fully recovered. He said Namibian coach Arie Schans and his two assistants, Ronnie Kanalelo and Brian Isaacs, were doing a wonderful job and he was positive that Namibia would qualify for both the African Nations Cup and World Cup next year.Nauseb is the only Namibian player to have played in all ten editions of the Cosafa Cup since it was called into life in 1997.He also had stints with South African glamour-side Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town before he joined Santos two seasons ago.He said three other clubs were interested in his services next season.”I cannot say which club is interested in me at this stage, because I am still waiting for their offers,” he said.Nauseb (34) did not play much football last season due to a foot injury, while the new coach at Santos also had new plans with the team he had been working on at the time Nauseb was nursing his injury.”I played in several friendly matches for Santos since I started training in January, but not much on the higher level as I was not part of the plans of the coach,” he said.He said once he has signed up with one of the clubs in South Africa next season, he will fight for a regular place and will be eligible for selection to the national team.”I still want to play for the national team.I think the current team is good enough and if I can make it and be part of it, it will be a bonus for me.I will give all my best for the country,” he said.Nauseb, who did not make the ship to the African Nations Cup in Ghana earlier this year, despite taking the team through the qualifiers as skipper, said he aims to play for the Warriors by November when he is fully recovered. He said Namibian coach Arie Schans and his two assistants, Ronnie Kanalelo and Brian Isaacs, were doing a wonderful job and he was positive that Namibia would qualify for both the African Nations Cup and World Cup next year.Nauseb is the only Namibian player to have played in all ten editions of the Cosafa Cup since it was called into life in 1997.He also had stints with South African glamour-side Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town before he joined Santos two seasons ago.
